By law, just like refrigerators, tires, and appliances, properly disposing of computers incurs fees.  At our shop we will accept functioning computers for recycling at no charge. 

If the computer runs, (even poorly) there is a good chance it can be reset, repaired or refurbished, and then resold inexpensively.  Not everyone wants or needs a new computer.  Many many computer users are novice and intermediate users just needing something basic, like for Job Searches, Banking, Email, Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, Craigslist, etc.  Almost any computer running properly can do those things well.

So if your computer came new with Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7, then it's likely someone else out there who can't afford new would really benefit from a decent basic refurbished computer...your old one.
